Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions to help you learn more about therapy and my practice. If you don’t see your question listed here, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to assist you.

  • To schedule a session, please reach out via email, phone, or the contact form. I’ll be in touch to learn a bit about what you’re looking for and to find a time that works for you. If we decide it’s a good fit, we’ll schedule your first appointment and I’ll provide you with intake forms to complete prior to our first session.

  • The first session is a space for us to get to know one another. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any questions you may have. For children and teens, the first session may include time with caregivers to gather important background information and support the treatment planning process.

This session is also a time for you to get a sense of whether this feels like the right fit. Therapy is most effective when there’s a strong, trusting relationship between client and therapist.

  • I work with individuals ages 3 and up, including children, adolescents, and adults. My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and tailored to meet each client’s developmental needs and life experiences.

  • My work draws from several therapeutic modalities, including:

    • Psychotherapy to support individuals in alleviating emotional and psychological distress, and improve mental well-being and functioning

    • Mindfulness-Based Play-Family Therapy for children, supporting emotional expression and healing through creative play

    • Mindfulness-Based interventions to build awareness, regulation, and presence

    • Person-Centered Therapy to create a warm, nonjudgmental space for growth

    • Family Therapy, when appropriate, to support communication and connection within the family system

    • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for trauma and distressing life experiences

  • EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and integrate traumatic or disturbing memories. Using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping), EMDR allows individuals to move through stuck points and reduce emotional distress related to past experiences. It is commonly used for trauma, anxiety, and PTSD.

  • Play therapy is a developmentally sensitive approach used to help children express feelings, resolve conflicts, and develop healthy coping skills. Children naturally process their world through play, and in a therapeutic setting, this becomes a powerful way for them to communicate and heal. Sessions may include toys, games, art, and storytelling.

  • I offer both in-person and virtual sessions, depending on your unique needs.

  • Standard sessions are 53 minutes in length.

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations with less that 24 hours’ notice or no shows will be charged the full session fee.

  • Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share in sessions is kept private and secure, within the limits of the law. Exceptions include situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse, or if I am ordered by a court to release information. I will always discuss confidentiality and its limits with you at the outset of therapy.

  • Unfortunately, our office is not handicap accessible at this time. We are located up two flights of stairs.

Please note that virtual sessions are available as an alternative.

  • If you are experiencing a crisis or emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately. Therapy sessions are not designed for crisis intervention. For urgent emotional support between sessions, I can provide resources for 24/7 crisis lines and support services.

  • I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on financial need. Please reach out for more information regarding the availability of these options.

  • I utilize Ensora Health, a HIPAA compliant platform for Telehealth. In the event that this platform is not operational, another HIPAA compliant platform, doxy.me may be utilized.

  • I am committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and affirming space for all clients, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or background.

Please note that my physical office is located up one flight of stairs and is not handicap accessible. For clients who require accommodations, I offer virtual therapy sessions as an alternative to in-person visits.

If you have specific accessibility needs or accommodations that would help you feel comfortable and supported during therapy, please do not hesitate to let me know. My goal is to work collaboratively with you to ensure therapy is accessible and respectful of your individual needs.
